Overall Objective:
Familiarization of students with the basic principles of nutrition and clinical nutrition of surgical patients
Specific Objectives:
By the end of the course, students are expected to:
- Describe energy calculation in critically ill and ICU patients
- Explain the general topics of nutrition
- Describe the indications for enteral nutrition
- Define enteral nutrition
- Explain about the complications caused by enteral nutrition
- Describe the indications of parenteral nutrition
- Define parenteral nutrition
- Explain about the complications caused by parenteral nutrition

Teaching Methods:
Lectures and group discussions are used.
Educational Materials:
Video projectors for slide shows, whiteboards and markers, samples of educational media produced in previous years, computers
Student Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Class attendance
- Active participation and responding to the questions during the sessions
- Performing the assigned projects (presentations)
Educational, training and cooperative methods used in the course include question-and-answer, discussions in large groups and lectures.
Evaluation:
1- Student evaluation methods during the term:
- -40% of the score based on the preparation and presentation of dissertation (word file and PowerPoint presentation
- -10% of the score is allocated to persistent class attendance
2- Student evaluation method at the end of the term:
- -50% of the score is based on the exam grade (essay format with short answers)
