Head’s Speech
Given the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases worldwide and the pivotal role of nutrition in their prevention, management, and control, nutritional sciences have gained exceptional significance in recent decades. A substantial proportion of current public health challenges—including malnutrition, obesity, micronutrient deficiencies, and issues related to food safety—highlights the need for comprehensive scientific attention and effective policymaking in this field.
Although significant progress has been made in our country in advancing nutrition-related education and research, further efforts are essential to strengthen both the basic and applied aspects of nutritional sciences. Achieving this goal requires continuous collaboration and strong support from the Ministry, the University, and the School. Undoubtedly, investment in education and research in this domain reflects an investment in primary prevention—an area whose benefits emerge over the long term and contribute meaningfully to reducing the burden of disease and promoting public health.
The Department of Nutritional Sciences at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, supported by dedicated and experienced faculty members and offering two master’s programs—Food Safety and Hygiene and Community Nutrition—takes pride in training competent and knowledgeable graduates who contribute to improving community health and advancing scientific development. We look forward to continuing our efforts in strengthening academic excellence and fulfilling our mission to enhance the health and well-being of society.
