Course Title: Metabolism Adjustment

Prerequisite: Advanced nutritional physiology/Advanced nutrition 1-2

Location: Faculty of Medical Sciences

Targeted group: Students of nutritional sciences

Credits: 2

Second semester of 2016

Course duration: 38 hours (19 sessions)

Level: PhD

Course type: Theory

Course manager: Dr. Mohsen Nematy

Day, time and location of class: Wednesday, 8-10/12-14

Overall Objective:

By the end of the course, students will be able to discuss the concepts of metabolism adjustment and chemical reactions in the body and tissues in the nervous system, liver, kidneys, cardiac system, fats and red blood cells.

Specific Objectives:

The course will provide information on the mechanisms of metabolic adjustment in micronutrients and macronutrients through hormonal, enzymatic and genetic systems, as well as body reactions and nutrients. The mechanism is essential to the recognition of metabolism concepts and their role in health and diseases.

Teaching Method:

Lectures, discussions, question-and-answer

Student Tasks and Responsibilities:

Active class attendance

Student Evaluation Method:

·         Lectures constitute 8 points (4 points per each)/preparing a patient guide (educational brochure) constitutes half a point per each lecture (the aim is to simplify scientific subjects)

·         Class attendance constitutes 2 points/each session of unjustified absence reduced half a point

·         Written questions in the essay format with short answers from the mentioned book and presented chapters constitutes 10 points

(Professors and student can obtain the electronic file of the book from the Nutrition Department office)

According to the schedule, students will present two lectures during the term. Each lecture lasts for 90 minutes with the maximum slide number of 90, the contents of which are based on the suggested books and other nutritional sciences reference books.
