Overall Objective:
Recognition of the required nutrients for health and disease prevention
Specific Objectives:
By the end of the course, students are expected to:
1- Explain the overview of nutritional sciences, importance of food and nutrient.
2- Define the categories of nutrition.
3- Describe energy metabolism, imbalance and food pyramid.
4- Demonstrate the nutritional needs in pregnant women.
5- Describe the nutritional needs of infants during the lactation period.
6- Demonstrate the nutritional needs of children, adolescents and elderly.
7- Describe food safety and diseases transmitted through food.
8- Explain about the role of nutrition in public health and preventative dentistry.
9- Describe the food sources of carbohydrates, as well as their types and effects on health.
10- Describe the food source of proteins and essential amino acids.
11- Define fats and essential fatty acids.
12- Explain about the role of fats in health and diseases.
13- Describe water-soluble vitamins, their frequent sources and role in health.
14-Describe fat-soluble vitamins, their frequent sources and role in health.

Student evaluation method:
1. Class attendance: Presence of students in classes is mandatory based on the circular of the educational assistant. Unjustified absence of more than 4 sessions will remove the course.
2. Final exam score: 20 points
